What are some decorating ideas for a 9 year old boys room?

Posted in October 4th, 2008

?Baby On Board? asked:

We just moved and are looking for a new fun way to his room. It is his first time having his own room he had to share with his sister up until now. So this is new and exciting for him! Its hard because there are far less boys out there. We dont want a charcter theme, he is “too old” for that. :) Thanks in advance for your ideas they are highly appreciated!

You can decorate his room according to his favorite sport or sports teams if he enjoys sports. Many paint stores carry decorative borders. Some paint, a border and some items of equipment such as mitts, balls, bats, caps etc. can make it a room a boy dreams of.

Get some plywood, some upholstery vinyl fabric ( I like the carbon fiber one), some carpet cushioning and cover one wall with squares of upholstered plywood. Looks very nice. Also Get a small dead tree with the roots if possible and paint it flat black. Looks surreal and nice. Also some kind of posters such as a movie poster or posters with sick cars in them. I like the Dub magazine posters. TiS. That’s how my room is and I get a lot of complements!!! Well, except for the gargoyles!!!

How about a Sports theme, or if he has a favorite sport you can find items that reflect his choice (including bedding) This is very popular.

If he likes boats or swimming, a nautical theme is great. You can find lots of items in stores like Home Goods that will reflect boats, fish, ships, etc. There are sheets and comforters that also show these items. (You can even get him a gold fish)

A catalog called Domestications (see their website) can also help you with other things for your Son’s room.

Trains are also a favorite of boys, but your Son might be getting too old for that.

You could use denim for the bedding and windows. Since it’s so versatile you’ll be able to choose accents like lamps, pillows, pictures, etc. that can change over the years as his interest change. Sports, airplanes, hobbies, etc. Have fun and let him have input – he’ll enjoy it more.

paint it blue, and maybe hang up some posters of his favorite music artists, or some pictures of his favorite movies,if he likes sports ,maybe some pennants or flags of his favorite teams. as for furniture, maybe a race car bed, or a regular bed with some really cool blankets of his favorite activities

A Nautical theme could be nice. You could even make the bed into the shape of a boat. If he is into Baseball, you could make the room into a baseball diamond with a mural on the wall with bleechers etc. Or a Jungle theme.
