Unless you are a well-known furniture or industrial designer, finding a manufacturer to make your furniture is going to be difficult. The best way to go, is to find a small furniture manufacturer in your area, and work out a deal with them to produce full-scale prototypes. This is important because it will allow you to work with them to iron out any details that cause difficulties during production, and also should something look not quite as you expected during the design phase, you will be able to make necessary changes before larger quantities are ordered. Once the prototypes have been built and approved, a predetermined number of each item will begin to be manufactured. Among the things you have to do, is find furniture retailers, or wholesalers, who would be interested in promoting or selling your line. The prototypes, once perfected, should be set up somewhere where you can invite people from the industry to look at it, a wine & cheese type event by invitation tends to work well. A lot of work is involved, and a lot of paper work too. All contracts should be reviewed by a business lawyer. When and if your line of furniture has proven to be of good quality and of interest to consumers, you will likely be contacted by representatives from the larger furniture companies. It is really a lot of work, and you won’t see a profit for a while — actually it will likely cost you several thousand before things get going.

You will definitely require business cards, and brochures illustrating and explaining/describing your line of furniture.

Alternately, you might be able to find an agent to handle some of this for you, but the cost tends to be high and you will likely have to give up some control over the finished product. The reason it is so difficult to have a line of furniture manufactured for mass-retail is because all of the big furniture manufacturers have in house designers trained specifically in furniture and experienced in cost-cutting methods and the like.

Good luck!
