You would need to complete a teaching degree.

I think you will need to be certified in family and consumer sciences.

I don’t know if there is such a thing as a HS interior design teacher. I’ve never heard of one and worked at one of the biggest school systems (Fairfax County Public Schools in VA). If there is, you definitely need to get a teaching degree. Best of luck!

You’ll have to major in Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) and tack on Secondary Education. You might not actually get the opportunity to teach interior design your very first year, but hang on to it and you’ll get there. Good luck!

Part of figuring out your class choices would be contacting your state office of education to see what requirements must be met to teach Int des at hi school. In my district, most of those teachers actually majored in home and consumer science or whatever a particular university calls those classes which were once simply known as home ec.

Different states may have different requirements, so see the people where you want to teach to get the low down.

Where do they teach that? You are pursuing a dead license area.

First the bad news. There are not too many interior design teachers.

Next, the good news. You can do it.

You should take, if not already doing so, interior design courses in a college.

You will need education classes for the high school teaching part. Very often you will be able to pursue the both types of lasses at the same college.

Contact your state education department and find out the teaching requirements. They will inform you about the specific classes that you need as well as the total number of college credits and the other requirements.

Good luck.
