Posted in December 26th, 2009

Mandy C asked:

My bedroom is not very big, but I have enough room to design a bit. I was of paint for the walls, possible art, posters, etc. may go well with a . I cannot change the rug because we are renting the house, but I want to re-do my room. I’m 21, I love vintage film, and I was thinking but a “wow” effect. Please help.

I love it too…you can do a rich, deep, but not too dark purple on the wall. Lots of pillows in soft and silky textures. think velvet and silk…tassles. Round pillows, square pillows… Get a cheap chandalier type lamp- to either hang from the ceiling over your bed or you can by table lamps that look like one. Find old prints to hang on the wall of people or magazines from old hollywood, old advertisements…you can look online and color print them and frame them- try going to garage sales and thrift shops to pick up items. Look for guilded mirrors and the old brush and mirror sets. Do curtains that are textured or patterned…. With red carpet (and I love red carpet) you can do colors like purple, black, whites, pinks…so don’t be afraid to use bright colors as well. You can get a throw rug to put over it to cut down on the red.
I love your idea…been thinking about doing this myself!
watch movies like ps i love you, atonement- for modern views on this style AND check out anyhting with Betty Davis or Joan Crawford- and just see what they use to accessorize.
