Are interior decorating certificate programs really worth taking? Are they really necessary?

I am considering getting into but there are no I.D. schools in my area and the are outrageously expensive. I have been looking at certificate programs and am considering going that route. Is that a good option, or am I just wasting my ? Can I get into the field without any sort of credentials? Do interior designers generally do mentorships?

It depends on what you want to accomplish. Do you want to be a decorator, or an actual designer? Visit for more information. That’s the site for the American Society for Interior Designers. I suspect it will give you some direction.
