Hey there. Have you ever considered leaning shelves? I think they’re ugly but you might think they’re cool I don’t know. They do seem like a good solution though. Just google leaning shelves

Area rugs are great for changing the look of your floor and you can take them with you when you move. As for the walls, I suggest you hang curtains from the ceiling if the ceiling are exposed rafters. You can use extra large eye hooks and run a thin rod through to hang the curtains on. It gives the room color and texture. Check out HGTV.com. They have all kinds of ideas for apartments that allow no major changes. Good luck and have fun!

I like Steph K’s idea of the 3M hooks this will allow you to hang pictures.

Try putting some rugs down that have blue in them but some other colors so that you can use color in other ways like throw afghans, pillows, curtains.

You could try draping some inexpensive fabric along or down parts of the walls. If you want to hang artwork, you can use JB Weld and a regular picture hanging hook. Just mix up the JB and put a glob of it on the wall and embed the hook in it and secure it with masking tape until it drys good. (I’ve used this method to hang things on my brick work outside before.)
**Maybe if you asked the owner of the place, he would let you paint, as long as you painted it back to it’s original color, when you move out??
The only other ideas I could suggest, is to add colorful lighting~like the colored flood light bulbs~you can put them in the base of a big plant, etc. and the light bouncing up the walls and onto the ceiling looks really pretty. I know they come in blue, green and red, but other might be available:)

You can buy pictures in frames that you like at ross for cheap. They also have mirriors and other decorations. As for sticking them up, they have these heavy duty thick like stickers out there. I’m not sure what they are called but you could go to Joanne Fabrics or some other home store for that. GET a rug!!!! a very bright one. They have them at home depot for cheap. Also get bright pillows and furniture coverings, all at ross, some of them even have furniture in the back that looks really cool. Little indoor fountains are cute too, but since it’s for your bf I don’t know about that.

I know what your going through! I used to live in a dorm room like that! Use bright colored fabrics whether they just be throw pillows or some blankets. Use bright colored bottles that you could find at a flea market, summer is a great time for those, and those make wonderful decorations! And the other tip about those things for the walls is great too!

I think you should invest in some of those 3M hooks. They go on the wall with sticky foam tape and you can pull them off very easily when you want to. They are cheap and dont involve busting through the wall at all

Once you have those up you can put whatever you want on them! Framed art, hang tapestries (my favorite decorating idea) or string some decorative lights up there.
